Tobias had a few good reasons to work in Perth: family, a change of scenery and the chance to experience Australian ICUs. While he enjoyed much of his time in WA, casual agency nursing came with a few challenges he hadn't anticipated. Before travelling to Perth, one of Tobias's biggest concerns was whether he'd get enough shifts to make the move financially worthwhile. “There were weeks where shifts were available, but there were also several cancellations and weeks where I worked much less than I had hoped.” Originally from the Philippines, Tobias has around 12 years of critical care experience across different ICU environments. Having previously worked in Auckland, New Zealand, he was keen to experience nursing in the Australian healthcare system.
